In 1995 I set foot on African soil for the first time. This was in Tanzania where I worked on a documentary about refugees. This first encounter with the African continent led to the start of my company Global Projects in 2004. Before I started Global Projects I worked for many years as a journalist. I was an editor and programme maker for various Dutch broadcasters. I worked at the foreign news desk of the Dutch NOS News (Journaal) and for different informative programmes for Dutch broadcaster AVRO. In 2003 I got the opportunity to travel to Tanzania again via my first client DEAN as a self-employed person. Ever since Africa continues to attract me.
I still work regularly for DEAN (Digital Education Africa Network) and have set up several local companies and projects with them, initiated new programmes and developed various partnerships. Currently I work a lot for them in Kenya and Tanzania. In addition, I have worked for various other clients over the past 15 years; in the Netherlands, Ghana, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Uganda. Please take a look at my Portfolio to get an idea about other work i did and do.
In 2007 I was a participant in the Amsterdam - Dakar Rally and drove in an old Citroen ambulance from the Netherlands via Southern Europe, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal to The Gambia. Being on the way en being in motion is what keeps me going. When I am not traveling for work, I also like to travel to other parts of the world for fun. I am a fan of Portugal and lately discovered Cuba. A great country to practice my other passion: salsa dancing. I also just started as a PUM coach for their new incubator initiative. PUM is a network of senior Dutch experts working on a voluntary basis throughout the world as consultant. You can read more about this here.
I work for profit and non-profit organizations and work on projects in the field of ICT and education (ICT4E), renewable energy, youth and women projects and projects in the field of circular economy and social entrepreneurship. Including the design and co-management of (social) companies and projects in East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) and West Africa (Ghana and Senegal).
I like to work on projects that are in the startup phase. I am often involved in new projects. I support entrepreneurs with the development and elaboration of the idea. I look for and find the right partners and - if possible - also the resources to further scale the project. I am also a practical person and prefer to work 'on the ground'; the one that prepares everything locally for clients who start a new project or company, the representative who seeks and finds the right local partners and a coach for young African entrepreneurs who work with (mostly) Dutch or European partners. In short, I am a real 'connector': of entrepreneurs, ideas and means.
Are you an entrepreneur and do you want to expand to Africa? Are you looking for local support for the execution of your project? Are you looking for additional finance / investors so that you can further grow your business? I can support you locally in Africa, put you in touch with the right partners and link you up to financial partners and / or investors in The Netherlands / Europe. Do you also want to bring entrepreneurship in Africa in motion? Take a look at services or contact me directly.
